IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

SMUGGLED-2: Wildlife Trafficking, Crime and Corruption in Australia (280 pp.), was officially released on October 1st 1996. The book is an all new sequel to the controversial best-seller Smuggled-The Underground Trade in Australia's Wildlife by Raymond Hoser. Smuggled-2 details the involvement of wildlife officials in Australia and elsewhere in the illegal trade in Australia's wildlife. Furthermore Smuggled-2 shows how many of these officials are also involved in other criminal activities including the drug trade, arms dealings, and so on. Detailed in the book are repeated cases of high-level corruption in State Wildlife departments, that includes, murders, bashings and other means to silence whistleblowers, including those within their own departments. Phone tapping, burglaries, armed raids and other strong-arm tactics are so common as to be effectively routine. Smuggled-2 shows how wildlife bureaucrats are allowing Australia's reptiles, birds and other fauna to be raped and pillaged and how more and more species are being driven to the brink of extinction as a result of illegal activities, bureaucratic mismanagement, inertia and indifference. The book exposes scandals that media units of these government departments have spent millions of taxpayer's dollars trying to cover up. Already officials from the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service (N.P.W.S.) have applied unprecedented pressure to stop sales of this book. This has resulted in an effective ban on sales here in Australia.

Even prepublication sales were in the vicinity of 1,000 copies. Over 4,000 copies had been sold and/or distributed by X-mas 1996 in spite of a court imposed ban on sales of the book (later overturned) and three failed defamation cases in New South Wales. Smuggled-2's's predecessor had over 100 reviews - all were favourable. Two so-called reviews that were critical of Smuggled were later retracted after it was shown they contained false and defamatory statements and had been written on behalf of the N.P.W.S. in what turned out to be failed attempts to discredit the book. Smuggled-2 is mandatory reading for those concerned about organized crime or wildlife in Australia. Smuggled-2 is printed on 80 gsm white paper, has 280 pages and over 100 illustrations. It is rivetting reading.
